She summoned strength to her legs and forced herself to stand. A shower could help. Earlier a servant brought her things and placed them in the bathroom. She was so consumed with eating and staying away her nausea she didn’t check. Marcella flicked on the light to the bathroom. There inside were her things, her toothbrush even her favorite toothpaste. Marcella frowned in recognition. She looked behind her to the door. Hanging on it was her Kimono, black and red with an intricate design woven in with gold. It was light and beautiful. She used to always wear it around Diego’s beach house. Her fingers stroked the fine threads as if it weren’t real. Returning to the room she went to the closet and found her suitcases inside. They weren’t there last night. Marcella grabbed the handles on both pieces and dragged them out. She began to inventory her things. It was obvious a man’s hands packed them. Most of it was useless, mix-matched pieces, tops missing bottoms, crumbled and balled up, shoved into the suitcases as if someone had worked in a hurry. And no underwear? He didn’t pack a bra or panty. She threw her hands up in defeat. Turning she went to the door and tried it again. The lock held.
